What is an orangery?

An orangery is essentially a cross between a conservatory and an extension, giving you all the benefits of a brickwork aesthetic combined with superior light and space and they tend to have a flat roof. The brickwork and glazing options used allow for a seamless integration with your home and will let in lots of natural light.

Due to their brickwork, bespoke orangeries have a more solid feel, yet they still offer the views of a conservatory with a meticulous finish to each and every panel.

Orangery roof options

As well as traditional style orangeries, we also offer LivinRoom and Loggia orangery roofs.

LivinRoom orangeries feature a typical conservatory flat roof that incorporates a plastered and fully insulated solid pelmet.

Loggia orangeries use a modern building system that incorporates specialist columns, glazed units to let in natural light, and an insulated orangery roof to create a true alternative to a traditional conservatory.

Uses for your orangery

Orangeries are a bright and airy space, guaranteed to bring you and your family a wealth of joy for many years to come. A modern orangery is an affordable way to add valuable living space to your home. Whether you want an orangery kitchen extension, extra space for the kids, or a home gym, an orangery installed by us can be used all year round.

The history of the Orangery

Orangeries originated in Italy as part of the Renaissance gardens, built against garden walls separate from the main house. Orangeries were built from the finest brick and stone available at the time, used at the base to support the heavy glass panes.

Originally used to shelter citrus fruit trees from harsh weather in the 17th century and 19th century, whilst still being able to be flooded with natural light. Orangeries nowadays are the connection from your home to your garden and modern orangeries still hold a level of beauty any homeowner would dream of owning to provide an extra layer of detail to their living area, whilst enhancing the existing architectural style of a property.

Their incorporation of a glazed lantern roof allows for beautiful airy daylight to flood in, but the surrounding deck also offers the possibility to include lighting fixtures; making orangeries the perfect option for lazing at any time of day.

Lantern glazed orangery roof

  • Traditionally the difference is subtle, unlike a conservatory’s full glazing, an orangery design features a ‘lantern’ glazed pelmet on a perimeter ‘deck’ that’s supported by pillars or columns. This gives bespoke orangeries their distinctive look and charm.
  • Opening up the garden with the help of bi-folding doors, will allow airflow for cooling down in the garden room, while the thermally efficient materials used ensure your house stays warm in the colder months.

13,000 Successful Installations Over 20 Years

Mrs Grimshaw

This is the second time that we have…

This is the second time that we have had StormClad to install some new windows to our home. Cannot fault them at all. The fitters are excellent in their work. We would definitely go back to them should we require more windows.

Third time of using Stormclad…

Third time of using Stormclad (conservatory, door and this time a window). Very happy with product and service. Window installer was prompt, courteous and tidy. Would use again.

Stormclad – highly recommended

Stormclad designed and installed a new front door for us and we couldn’t be happier with it. The door looks smart and is good quality. Everyone we spoke to and met at the company were a pleasure to deal with, and the installation was carried out to the highest standard. Thank you, Stormclad.

Origin Bi-Fold install.

Had my first dealing with Stormclad and what an amazing company to deal with. From the beginning to the very end I cant find a fault with them. I had a window taken out and Origin Bi-fold fitted. Both the installer – Wayne and the plasterer – Martin have done a first first class job. I’m already looking into another bi-fold with them and I suspect the level of quality and detail will again be up there. K

Mr T

Great service again

Having previously used Stormclad to install doors for us, we had no hesitation in using them again when we required some new windows. We received the same first class service as on previous occasions. From the initial consultation with Sally, subsequent interaction with Allison, to the fitting by Wayne the process was very smooth. Wayne arrived to carry out the fitting at a time which was convenient for us, and worked tirelessly to complete the installation. He was very pleasant, respectful of our home and very neat in his work. We could not have asked for more!
Would thoroughly recommend Stormclad.

Brilliant Service!

Would recommend Stormclad to anyone. We had windows and doors for our new house and we love them. The journey started with Sally, she was great. Very knowledgeable, straight to the point and none of the usual salesperson waffle you get with some companies.
Price was within our budget.
The quality of the products are great. The fitting team, Chris and Tommy were very good, they didn’t stop, tidied up well after themselves and were very respectful of our home.
The office staff were also very polite and efficient.
We will definitely be back in the future for any further home improvements that we decide to do.
Thanks again Stormclad!
