What is an orangery?

An orangery is essentially a cross between a conservatory and an extension, giving you all the benefits of a brickwork aesthetic combined with superior light and space and they tend to have a flat roof. The brickwork and glazing options used allow for a seamless integration with your home and will let in lots of natural light.

Due to their brickwork, bespoke orangeries have a more solid feel, yet they still offer the views of a conservatory with a meticulous finish to each and every panel. Whether you wish to use your orangery as an extended living room, kitchen, dining area, or study, our designers will work with you to make a fully bespoke plan. This will ensure that your orangery design will be a striking addition to your home, in the style and finish that you wish.

Lantern glazed orangery roof

Traditionally the difference is subtle, unlike a conservatory’s full glazing, an orangery design features a ‘lantern’ glazed pelmet on a perimeter ‘deck’ that’s supported by pillars or columns. This gives bespoke orangeries their distinctive look and charm.

Originally used to shelter citrus fruit trees from harsh weather in the 17th century and 19th century, orangeries are the connection from your home to your garden. The glazed lantern roof allows for beautiful airy daylight to flood in, but the surrounding deck also offers the possibility to include lighting fixtures; making orangeries the perfect option for lazing at any time of day.

Opening up the garden with the help of bi-folding doors, this will allow airflow for cooling down in the garden room, while the thermally efficient materials used ensure your house stays warm in the colder months. Their thermal efficiency ensures you can enjoy your orangery all year round, no matter the temperature outside.

As well as traditional style orangeries, we also offer LivinRoom and Loggia orangery roofs. LivinRoom orangeries feature a typical conservatory flat roof that incorporates a plastered and fully insulated solid pelmet. Neil Stacey

Had new door and side window. WOW, great quality, excellent fitters, Ben & Kyle. Had a guess at the price before a quote and they quoted £1000 less than I thought. The service, communication and professionalism of the company staff we encountered was 10/10 I would most definitely use Stormclad again.

We are very pleased with our new windows. Thank you to Andrjez and to Simon for discussions on the design and the survey – so helpful. The installation went really well so thanks for that to Jono and Ben, they were very efficient and also friendly and polite. I would definitely use Stormclad again in the future.

Even in a Covid world everything was done efficiently. Liaised with Dennis over email to save a visit for the initial paperwork, Simon came around for the measuring up and then once again (on request) we had Jono and Ben for the installation. Fitted in half the time quoted, fantastic attention to detail and exactly as we hoped for. Our second time using Stormclad and both experiences have been excellent.
