Window Materials

We offer windows in a full range of materials to suit any style and budget. All options exhibit exceptional thermal performance, but they differ when it comes to their aesthetic qualities.

uPVC windows – This is the most popular window material in the East Midlands and across the UK. Cost-effective and incredibly versatile, uPVC windows a low-maintenance, energy-efficient solution for homeowners.

Timber windows – For ornate, traditional charm, authentic timber is a vintage choice for older, rural properties. If properly maintained, these frames can last up to 60 years.

Aluminium windows – With unrivalled strength, aluminium window can support larger panes of glass with very thin frames. It’s the ideal window material for modern homeowners looking for minimalist aesthetics.

We also offer windows from leading brands such as Origin and the Residence collection. Origin windows are premium aluminium windows that benefit from great thermal performance strength and fantastic styles. Residence windows, meanwhile, are modern uPVC windows that offer heritage timber window aesthetics.

Window Styles

When it’s time to invest in replacement windows, it’s important to know what style you’re after.

Casement windows – The most common style of window, a casement is a window that is attached to its frame by one or more hinges at the side. It’s a very versatile style that can suit almost any kind of property.

Bay windows – Often located at the front of the house, a bay window extends from an exterior wall. It will consist of a flat, wide, fixed window with an angled, operational window on either side. They commonly feature in front rooms.

Flush sash windows – These have a clean finish, both on the interior and exterior, with the window neatly sitting flush within the face of the frame.

Sliding sash windows – Also known as vertical sliders, these upwards sliding windows are especially popular with Victorian properties.

Tilt & turn – These tilt inwards for ventilation. They are a safe, secure and low-maintenance window solution for properties that are low on space.

Do not hesitate to contact one of our experts to clarify which kind of window you are after.

Window Glazing Options

A vital thing to consider when investing in new windows is their efficiency. Under the new building regulations which arrived in June 2022, all new windows must achieve U-values of 1.4 W/m²k or less. Low U-values mean lower rates of thermal transfusion, meaning heat is less likely to escape the home. With high-performance windows, homeowners won’t have to overuse their central heating, helping to keep energy bills down.

As such, it’s vital to ensure that any replacement windows are double-glazed. Only these can achieve the levels of thermal performance required by law. Single-glazed windows are outdated and cause swathes of heat to escape. Other benefits of double-glazed windows include:

  • Noise reduction
  • Enhanced security
  • Increased property value
  • Improved aesthetics

Window Colour Options

It’s important to choose a colour which is going to suit the character of your home’s exterior and interior. There are also several kinds of woodgrain-effect finishes to choose from. Below are some of the most popular colours for uPVC windows:

  • Light grey
  • Black
  • Chartwell green
  • Oak effect

For aluminium windows, dark shades like black and anthracite grey are fantastic for accentuating their slim, modern frames.

For timber, many people opt to keep their natural brown hue. However, other popular colours for timber windows include French grey and Chartwell green.

Window Security Features

Additional security features are also an important thing to consider. After all, one of the primary purposes of windows is to keep your home safe.

Whether it’s uPVC, timber or aluminium, all of our windows come with a full range of security features. View the complete list of security options here.

All our high-performance, secure window systems can be manufactured to Secured by Design specification. This is an independent police-approved group that was established as part of the Association of Chief Police Officers to evaluate the effectiveness of window products against crime.

Do you need planning permission to replace windows?

In most cases, you don’t require planning permission to replace your windows. However, if you live in a listed building or within a conservation area, then you may have to secure planning permission from your local council. In either scenario, it’s always worth double checking with your local authority before undertaking a home improvement project.

Some common situations which may lead to you requiring planning permission include:

  • Changing window style and colour in listed buildings and houses located in conservation areas
  • Adding a new bay window to the front of the house, as this may technically constitute as an extension

13,000 Successful Installations Over 20 Years

Mrs Grimshaw

This is the second time that we have…

This is the second time that we have had StormClad to install some new windows to our home. Cannot fault them at all. The fitters are excellent in their work. We would definitely go back to them should we require more windows.

Stormclad – highly recommended

Stormclad designed and installed a new front door for us and we couldn’t be happier with it. The door looks smart and is good quality. Everyone we spoke to and met at the company were a pleasure to deal with, and the installation was carried out to the highest standard. Thank you, Stormclad.

Origin Bi-Fold install.

Had my first dealing with Stormclad and what an amazing company to deal with. From the beginning to the very end I cant find a fault with them. I had a window taken out and Origin Bi-fold fitted. Both the installer – Wayne and the plasterer – Martin have done a first first class job. I’m already looking into another bi-fold with them and I suspect the level of quality and detail will again be up there. K

Great service again

Having previously used Stormclad to install doors for us, we had no hesitation in using them again when we required some new windows. We received the same first class service as on previous occasions. From the initial consultation with Sally, subsequent interaction with Allison, to the fitting by Wayne the process was very smooth. Wayne arrived to carry out the fitting at a time which was convenient for us, and worked tirelessly to complete the installation. He was very pleasant, respectful of our home and very neat in his work. We could not have asked for more!
Would thoroughly recommend Stormclad.

Brilliant Service!

Would recommend Stormclad to anyone. We had windows and doors for our new house and we love them. The journey started with Sally, she was great. Very knowledgeable, straight to the point and none of the usual salesperson waffle you get with some companies.
Price was within our budget.
The quality of the products are great. The fitting team, Chris and Tommy were very good, they didn’t stop, tidied up well after themselves and were very respectful of our home.
The office staff were also very polite and efficient.
We will definitely be back in the future for any further home improvements that we decide to do.
Thanks again Stormclad!
