Classic Kitchen Extension in Redmile, Nottingham

Typical kitchen extensions of today often have a modern, contemporary air about them. But thanks to notable advancements in building material production, there seems to be a resurgence of classically styled home improvements taking place across the East Midlands at the moment. Providing traditionally styled homes with a much wider range of options, the days of timber windows and doors being the only option are well and truly over – although, of course, still essential for listed buildings, conservation areas and homes where permitted development is limited.

So, if you’re looking for inspiration to get your own vintage home improvement off the ground, this classic kitchen extension recently installed in the quaint Nottinghamshire village of Redmile is sure to get your creative juices flowing!

Pain Points

Back garden of Home before an extension was built in Redmile, Nottingham.

Although not a bad size, something was decidedly lacking within this Redmile home. Focused on a larger, lighter kitchen space that would seamlessly blend with the properties existing features, it was also essential that the new structure didn’t overshadow the ample garden area.

The Solution

Substantial conservatory extension

Finished Kitchen Extension attached to brick house in Redmile, Nottingham

Elegant, low-maintenance and usable all year round, a charming ‘orangery-style’ uPVC conservatory was added as an extension to the existing kitchen. Incorporating rendered brick piers, a sturdy dwarf wall and full-length glazing creates an enlightening and welcoming atmosphere whilst smoothly matching the look of the rest of the property. The additional brickwork beautifully supports the crystal-clear Ultraframe roof, complete with Ultra 86 roof glazing. Transformed into a real ‘hub of the home’, as well as effectively ‘zoning’ each area, this family can now look forward to entertaining in comfort and cooking under the stars, should the mood take them!

The Results

White Deceuninck 2500 chamfered windows with surface mounted astragal bars

Utilising advanced Deceuninck 2500 PVCu profiles, the sharp yet understated Chamfered profile was the perfect option for this project. Incorporating authentic astragal bars delivers the unmistakable multiple panes of glass associated with period properties throughout the East Midlands and beyond. Timelessly authentic, they also complement the traditional look of the existing windows. Able to achieve A+ energy ratings, their multifunctional weather seal provides outstanding weather resistance too.

Fabulous uPVC French doors

Outside a finished Kitchen Extension in Redmile, Nottingham

Delivering all the refinement and class of traditional timber without any of the headaches, the transformation was complete with the addition of matching uPVC French doors fitted in the dining room. Opening outwards onto the newly improved patio space, security, ventilation, access, and natural light intake has been greatly improved. French doors create the perfect setting for inspirational dining rooms, and this installation was no different!
